September Scrapbooking Kit Reveal!!

I was thrilled to be asked by Sheila to join Sarah as a resident designer at Scrappin' Great Deals!! So I get to create layouts every month with her fantastic kits. As a bonus, I get to help her select the incredible products we put into the kits. The kit is on the website now to purchase so I guess I can show you what I created with it!!!

Here is September's kit:
Lots of gorgeous double sided patterned paper, cardstock, ribbon, title cards, designer Tim Holtz key, glitter alpha, buttons, brads, dew drops....and the potential is there for either boy or girl layouts!! What is not to love!

Layout One: Memories
I used PanPastels to colour in the leaf stamps on this layout, distress inks from Tim Holtz, dry embossed some of the paper with my Cuttlebug, heat embossed the title card and journal tag, used my scor-pal to add some texture to the cardstock base.

Stamped directly onto the photo with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Layout Two: Nature Boys

Lots of distressing, stamping and embossing on this one!! Went a little nuts with it! I used a resist embossing technique on the tag which is just a manilla packing tag from Staples.

The leaf embellishments were made from Shrink Plastic, alcohol inks and my maple leaf Nestabilities. Very cool technique!! And the little red dots were made with a marker and glossy accents, little black dots are an embossing marker and clear embossing powder. Both types of dots were added once the rest of the layout was finished.

Layout Three: First Day o' JK!

SO many layers to this one, it took forever to place it all, then remember what I did when I took it all apart to glue down!! I used a technique that Kim showed me: using ink inside a Cuttlebug folder before you run it through the machine, ink and emboss at the same time!!
I added some Bo-Bunny Mama-razzi alpha stickers to this layout. A couple extra sheets of the Vanilla cardstock were used as well, I just loved the reds and greens with the creamy tone of the cardstock. I also coloured some chipboard circles with ink and added them as well for extra dimension.

I am really loving the distressed inks by Tim Holtz: I used Barn Door, Black Soot, Tea Dye, Peeled Paint and Pine Needles.

I have another layout in the works as well with some more of the kit, using more of the PanPastels.

Please pop over to Sarah's blog to see her creations. (She might not post until tomorrow though!!) Any questions on the techniques I used please leave me a comment and I will get back to you!! Stay cool!!

New Media: Pan Pastels

Scrappin' Great Deals has a new media in stock....PanPastels. A solid pastel that applies like paint, really fluid, blends great and erases easily. I really liked the results I got. Can't wait to play more with them!!

Have a fabulous day and go colour!!! :)

An oldie but I still love it!

So I pulled out a few of my older albums today to show Malcolm what it is I "do", after he asked why I spend so much time scrapbooking. He found it fascinating but he kept asking "Where am I Mommy??" I fully admit to being YEARS behind in my layouts!!! Here is a layout I absolutely loved when I did it about 6 years ago!! Still love it, but oh how my style has evolved!! My first 4 albums.....NO PATTERNED PAPER!! Can you believe it??!! I only used cardstock, WOW!

So I will share, really hard to photograph because it is stuck in an album but anyhoo:

I still love taking black and white photographs of nature! These pictures were taken in our favourite hiking spot, Komoka Provincial Park, just down the road from my favourite scrapbooking store...Scrappin' Great Deals!

Hope you had a great weekend, I'll have more current layouts to share soon!!

Landscape Plan in Progress

This is what I have been working on for my DAY job! It's not often I get to design for an entire property but in this instance I do!! This is the third landscape plan I have done for this particular client over the course of about 10 years. I think she moves a lot but that is great for me! She loves plants and really encourages my creativity. We will be starting the actual construction this week. Very exciting to watch it develop! Our client has renovated the entire house, inside and out, we get to be the finishing touch!

Have a great day!

Sweet Stampavie!

Really love this stamp "Sweet Dreams" by Stampavie, found at SGD. So so sweet. I coloured her a while ago with pencil crayons and mineral spirits (my first attempt!). Finally made her into a card! I used my script embossing folder by Cuttlebug with some pale pink vellum for the background.

Happy Birthday Big Sis!!

It was my sister's birthday yesterday, and we are going out for a couple cocktails this evening to celebrate...just the two of us! I love this stamp from Kraftin' Kimmie, I embossed the image with holographic embossing powder. My sister likes shiny things!! I found in my hoard a pack of glittery black and white alphabet paper that worked well with the simple image, and mounted it all on black Bazzill cardstock.

Hopefully Kathy doesn't check my blog today! She'll spoil my surprise!! I made a reference inside about bottling up the fountain of youth! Where do the years go??!!

Make Today a Play Day!

Wouldn't it be nice if EVERY day was a play day??!! My boys would love it, well actually for them right now, every day pretty much IS a play day!!

I coloured up this image a while back and just recently turned it into a card. It is up on display at Scrappin' Great Deals. The image is a High Hopes stamp, coloured with my pencil crayons and mineral spirits. The sentiment is from Daisy Bucket. Some Fancy Pants and LYB (I think!) paper, Bazzill cardstock, and Making Memory Solid Eyelets, and brads.

Have yourself a play day too!!!

Miles & Miles of Reptiles

Okay, better late than never!!! Here is my last layout I did with Scrappin' Great Deal's August Scrapbooking Kit.
It's a double spread, harder to photograph and post!! (Click on the image for a closer look!)
I added some orange cardstock to the kit, and used some felt Thickers from American Crafts, and some Tiny Type by Cosmo Cricket. Some more stamping, I made my own lizard border, stamped some images on Neenah paper and coloured with my pencil crayons and mineral spirits. This was a fun layout to do. I think it really shows Malcolm's love of reptiles!!

This layout was removed for publication in the 2011 spring issue of Canadian Scrapbooker, but it is back now!!!  :)

I hope you had a great holiday weekend!! Gotta love a short work week!! Stay cool! :)

August Kit Reveal

It's August already!! Where is the summer going?? Here is the latest scrapbooking kit released by Scrappin' Great Deals!!

Lots of oranges, browns and turquoises, and a splash of yellow! Very pretty and definitely not my usual palette!! This was a challenging kit for me...which is good! It gets your creative juices flowing! So here is what I came up with. Two layouts so far, my third is still a work in progress (I have been working a LOT lateley!!)

First layout, my niece was here this summer and how she has grown! She will be 10 this year and she is so beautiful, always has been, so my layout: "then & now, Beauty"
I played with some Turquoise Glimmer Mist, lots of flourishes stamped with Dark Brown Chalk Ink, I used a Tim Holtz Sizzix Die to cut out some more flourishes, the kit came with the large flower and some orange flowers, and I added a few more plus some Prima pearls.
Close up of the layers in the title:
I used a Spellbinders nestie (labels 10) to cut out the title card from the scrap vellum I used to cover the floor where I sprayed the glimmer mist.

Here is my second layout, a picture of my Grandma with 6 of her Great-Grandkids! I love the sepia tones in this "Family is Forever" layout:

I used a Kaiser clear stamp set from their Peachy Keen line and some Versamark Dazzle ink on the brown cardstock to create the watermark (hard to see in the picture...much better in real life!) then I used Creamy Brown Chalk Ink to go over the watermark to create my own patterned paper. I used my Scor-Pal to add some texture to the cardstock and patterned paper. Another Tim Holtz Sizzix die cut out the bird cage, and I cut out the coloured birds/leaves from the patterned paper included in the kit. I used a cricut cartridge to cut out the title. Lots of inking and distressing...that's what I like!

Close up of the stamping:
The kit will be ready in the store after the holiday on August 3! Pick it up while you can...they go really fast!! Be sure to check out Sarah's blog and April's to see what they came up with as well!

Happy Civic Holiday!
